People may think that having a blog is something easy, relaxing and effortless. However, if you own a blog, you probably have a different opinion: if you have a full-time job, a family to take care and/or other responsibilities, adding a blog to your life can be challenging and you may end up fed up with it. Now, imagine that you could think about it as something easy, relaxing and effortless: do you think the quality of your posts and the frequency of posting will be lower? If your answer is yes, then you need to keep reading this post to find out some tips that can change your life!
1. Blog about something you are passionate about
This is something obvious, as we all start a blog in a topic we love and we know, with the aim of enjoying what we share with the world. However, it’s easy to fall in the temptation of writing posts certain topics just because they are popular, trendy and you want to get more visitors. If don’t really like these topics, blogging will begin to become an obligation and something that causes you stress, not to mention that the actual quality of the post will be lower.
Think about topics/thoughts/opinions that you really believe in and that you really know or would like to know more and share it in the best way you can: not to get more visitors, but to make them enjoy your post and to enjoy yourself while you are writing it and being able to come back one day and wanting to read again what you wrote. How many times did you re-read your own posts? Why?
In addition, if you do something you are in love with, you will be able to work more in your spare time: you will be able to write a draft in the bus/tram/ train/plain, or make a list of new titles for your next posts, draw schemes for the content and so on. Carry a notebook everywhere, inspiration can come anytime and you need write it down as well as all the awesome ideas that you can have around the main concept: this will save you lot of time, as you will just need to think about the post’s structure and write it down.
2. Find your peak hour
Even if you think you are weird because you like to work at 5am while most of the people you know are sleeping, don’t worry. First, the fact that you don’t know anyone with your same schedule doesn’t mean that you are the only person in the world doing it that way. If you have a look at bloggers/YouTubers tips, you will find that some of them prefer to work very early in the morning and others, late at night. This depends on you, when you can dedicate enough time to the blog without being disturbed or distracted by other obligations and when you feel motivated and energetic to work on it. If you can achieve the first tip, you will be able to find these extra time and allocate it in your daily routine.
3. Make a routine that you enjoy
Write down your monthly and find a way to make them happen: once you have identify this optimal time when you can work in your blog, you need to make a weekly plan, writing down each day your tasks. For example: Monday-writing, Tuesday-social media, Wednesday-pictures… and every week, you will complete the schedule with specific tasks like: Monday-write the post about holidays, Tuesday-participate in the beauty chat on Twitter… and so on. Also, I really suggest that you make a self-evaluation of how this went every day and if you find that you want to swap tasks or even change the times when you are blogging, adapt it the following week, and keep tracking yourself till you find the optimal schedule that works for you. You can do this with the rest of activities in your life, and write down a weekly plan that makes you feel happy and motivated to accomplish.
4. Make a plan but be flexible
It sounds like a contradiction, but same as organization skills are important, being able to adapt yourself to unexpected situations is a quality that you need. In addition to the previous tip, you need to accept that life is full of unexpected situations and out of control circumstances. Therefore, if you are not able to accomplish a task one day, think that probably the world will be remain the same, you just need to find another suitable time to make it happen, following the previous tips, that is, with no stress and enjoying what you do.
5. Give yourself some time to do nothing every day!
You may think that this sounds crazy, specially if you have several responsibilities but the truth is that feeling emotionally overwhelmed and physically tired are warning that tell us that we need to rest. Similar as in tip #2, this time you need to find your off-peak hour (or even half hour) to do nothing: watch TV, drink a coffee, seat in the garden… these activities count as “doing nothing”. Also, try to enlarge your time to do nothing on the weekends, this will make your brain recharge energies, you will be more productive, and you will reduce to risk of feeling stress or anxiety. You will work happier knowing that you have a reward time every day to just relax.
