It’s the start of a new journey for me.
Feeling overwhelmed with life is extremely common in the modern world. We are constantly available and rarely switch off from the outside world.
With social media, smart phones, and all manner of peripherals to keep us tuned into the outside world, people often forget the important things in life. I know, at least, that this statement is true for me.
I am so out of tune with myself, that I often feel that life is just too much. I lack the space and mental capacity to just take time out.
Recently, I met someone who has, in the space of just over a week, had a massive impact on my life and how I perceive myself. I’ve known for a while that I’m out of sync, but I haven’t had anyone else notice. Without knowing me, he noticed. He suggested that I start taking time out. He even gave me the first tool I needed to begin. Just a small tool, a 5-minute audio clip.
I felt encouraged, compelled even, to give it a go. I mean, it was there, on my phone… ready for me.
So, I did.
I sat down, alone, in the living room once everyone had gone to bed and I tried it. It was the end of a particularly emotional day celebrating my Nan’s 82nd birthday in her absence. The family were together, and we sang happy birthday.
While listening to the clip, I felt calm. I focused on my breathing, the position of my fingers, the feeling of my feed on the floor. I heard my laptop hissing, the clock ticking, a train speeding by on the track. I felt my fingers tingle and a smile played on my lips…
Just 5 minutes lowered my heart rate, cleared my mind, and left me feeling like it’s never too late to change the course of your life.
My hurdles in the past have been not taking that time out, not practicing self-care and healing. I haven’t given myself enough space to breath, to grieve, to just be me.
I’m trying to find a better me, a happier me… I want to be connected to myself and my feelings again.
Is it possible to be a better person? Is it possible to find that deeper focus and meaning in my life that will help me choose the right path?
