The only way I could follow a free printable reading journal would be with a review of a great book.  I used the reading journal to write down my comments once I finished reading this book, so I wouldn’t forget anything important.

Anyhow, I digress.  Today it is my stop on the Blog Tour for Joy Ellis’ new book, The Guilty Ones.  Well, at least I thought it was… I’ve actually missed my stop by 5 days.  Now, recently Joy became my stationery loving friend and the rest of the partygoers have made it their mission to stop us going stationery shopping together.  This makes me sad.

I suppose, though, I really should stick to the topic here.

The Guilty Ones is the fourth book in the Jackman and Evans series and is probably their most difficult case yet.

Even though, I haven’t read the previous instalments, I don’t doubt it.  This time it’s personal when DI Jackman’s sister-in-law disappears and throws herself into a river.  Jackman nor Evans are satisfied with the explanation and after a lot of digging, truths are told.  But WHO is guilty, and of what?

Having never read anything written by Joy Ellis before, I began a little apprehensively.

Would I connect to the characters this far into the series?

Would I understand the team dynamics?

I completely underestimated Joy’s ability to add to a series but also make sure it could stand alone if necessary.  Immediately, I loved the “Amazonian” Marie Evans with her motorbike (doesn’t everyone love a good, strong female lead?).  Rowan Jackman is a gentle man who, like most good detectives seem to be, is married to his job.

I do need to point out that the first chapter is important.  I didn’t really remember it until something happened later on in the book so definitely read it thoroughly.

The story unfolded relatively slowly to be honest.  However, it was the kind of slow that meant I grasped it all rather than got bored.  Maybe this could be an indicator that it was perfectly paced.  It certainly had twist after twist and I really enjoyed every part of it.

I would definitely recommend giving the book a read so, go on, click the image below to buy it!

Why not buy the previous 3 in the series while you’re at it?  You can do that by clicking on the images below.

About Joy Ellis

UK #1 Best Seller with THEIR LOST DAUGHTERS and THE FOURTH FRIEND

700,000 books sold and rising!

“I was born in Kent but spent most of my working life in London and Surrey. I was an apprentice florist to Constance Spry Ltd, a prestigious Mayfair shop that throughout the sixties and seventies teemed with both royalty and ‘real’ celebrities. What an eye-opener for a working-class kid from the Garden of England! I swore then, probably whilst I was scrubbing the floor or making the tea, that I would have a shop of my own one day. It took until the early eighties, but I did it. Sadly, the recession wiped us out, and I embarked on a series of weird and wonderful jobs; the last one being a bookshop manager. Surrounded by books all day, getting to order whatever you liked, and being paid for it! Oh bliss!

And now I live in a village in the Lincolnshire Fens with my partner, Jacqueline, and our two second generation Springer spaniels. I had been writing mysteries for years but never had the time to take it seriously. Now I can, and as my partner is a highly decorated retired police officer; my choice of genre was suddenly clear. I have set my crime thrillers here in the misty fens because I sincerely love the remoteness and airy beauty of the marshlands. This area is steeped in superstitions and lends itself so well to murder!”

Thanks to Joy and Joffe Books for the copy I read in order to write my review.
