About my blog:
My blog started out as an outlet for me when I experienced Post Natal Depression with my daughter who was born 11 years ago. It was a place for me to be honest and real, which later led to me raising awareness and then helping other people. I also started working with the NHS to raise awareness, it led me into applying for a qualification in counselling and then on to a diploma in Complementary Therapies where I am now the Therapist for women in the West of Scotland Mother and Baby Unit. I do massage therapies for the Mums and I’m glad that my own journey was able to make this happen and that I can help others who experience perinatal mental health issues. Also, my blog has grown into much more, in that I talk about parenting, studying, family life, goals etc. I still find it therapeutic to write and it’s given me many amazing opportunities.
My main blogging category is:
You can find me at:
@Angelfirecan on twitter and on Instagram, @Angelfire1611
How and why did you get into blogging:
For Therapeutic reasons and to try to make sense of my diagnosis of Post Natal Depression, parenting and life.
Where do you get your writing inspiration from?
I think myself.. not wanting to blow my own trumpet but I have gained so much strength and knowledge on my personal journey. It was a hard journey but I got through it and I am proud of myself.
If you could offer some words of encouragement to a newbie or frustrated blogger, what would they be?
Do it for you. Always remember the reasons for starting a blog and stay true to that. If you write from the heart, people will know.
What has changed most about blogging culture/the blogging industry since you started?
There are so many bloggers out there and I think those who read and comment just for an increase in stats, come across very insincere. The positives are that people are recognised for their hard work and software has grown immensely.
What daily tools and platforms do you use in your blogging routine, for research, promotion, sharing and other:
I use Twitter, Instagram and YouTube in order to see what others do. I see if these tools fit into my own style and I have taken onboard ideas and suggestions from bloggers.
Tell us about your greatest blogging achievement to date?
My greatest achievement is being able to raise awareness and work with the NHS to produce a film which highlights the struggles of Post Natal Depression and Peri-Natal mental health. Also, it led me to a qualification in counselling as well as becoming a holistic therapist. I am also applying to university to become a mental health nurse in order to combine therapies and that knowledge to help women and their families who experience peri Natal mental health issues.
Where do you hope blogging will take you in the future?
I hope it helps people understand initially about maternal mental health, personally and in a professional capacity. I also hope that the reviews and gifts can be enjoyed by my children as I wouldn’t have started blogging had they not been born. I also am considering writing a book about my experience with PND, in order to help others.
