Please tell us a bit about your blog?
The Social Media Samurai is a place where I speak on various lifestyle topics including music, fitness and travel. In addition I give helpful tips in the field of social media marketing.
Q1. How and why did you get into blogging?
I’ve been blogging since 1998 when it was probably still called journal writing . It was a way for me to get thoughts out of my active mind and into a more structured form.
Q2. Where do you get your writing inspiration from?
I’m inspired by life. The good, bad & ugly of the world gives me consistent thoughts and feelings that I openly express with the hope of engaging people in discussion. Hopefully these conversations lead to action.
Q3. If you could offer some words of encouragement to a newbie or frustrated blogger, what would they be?
Have patience and discover your own voice. If you’re just starting understand that this is a long term game. Your favorite bloggers all have years under their belts of being unknown. In the mean time work on your “voice”. This means the style that you communicate and write in should be yours. Don’t try and blog like others.
Q4. What has changed most about blogging culture/the blogging industry since you started?
When I started it was more personal. As social media as grown it has evolved into a business and with that some of the purity of it is lost as many do it now solely for money.
Q5. What daily tools and platforms do you use in your blogging routine, for research, promotion, sharing and other?
Twitter and Facebook are prime promotional sites for me also Pinterest. I also have appeared on online radio shows too which is great promotion. In addition pay attention to what events are happening in my area because there is a personal element to blogging too. Get out an physically meet others that do what you do. Networking has to be social beyond the Internets.
Q6. Do you understand your blog analytics, and how important do you think they are? Please share some best practice.
I understand them and use them to tweak and improve my blog. I pay attention to where my traffic is coming from and how long they stay on the site. It gives me numerous areas to focus on and keeps me engaged with always improving.
Q7. Where do you hope blogging will take you in the future?
I look forward to the increasing reach of my blog to enable me to share my views and my knowledge to help others in reaching their goals.
