We have asked our blogger community to answer a few blogging questions about themselves, with the aim of getting to know them and their blogs a little better. These will be published as a series of blog posts, which we hope will make interesting reading. Carry on reading if you’d like to find out more about the bloggers who are active on Bloggers Required. You can view other blogger Q&As here, and you can complete your own here.
Please tell us a bit about your blog?
I talk about things that go on in my every day life, my struggles with weight loss, my longing and planning for a house of my own. I like to post about tabboo-ish subjects that affect my daily life. I also made a point to, if I was going to review something, I would always include a before and after picture. For example if I was reviewing foundation, which claims to give great coverage and it’s a really good colour match, why would ANYONE want to see how it looks on the back of my hand? I show the difference it actually makes when using it for it’s actual function.
Q1. How and why did you get into blogging?
I got into blogging because I found myself reading carbon copies of reviews and different make up and ‘this is what I wore today’ on other blogs. A new product would come out/a new dress in a popular shop and then there seemed to be an influx of posts all reviewing or talking about the exact same thing. I wanted to, yes review products, but I wanted to do a show and tell. What the point in buying and reviewing a shampoo which is apparently anti-frizz or anti dandruff and then just showing the after picture. I want to see what it looked like before and then the after picture and then be able to judge for myself how great it works/doesn’t work. I also wanted to put my own spin on things, be a tell all person. I’m quite open as a person and I don’t mind sharing what I’ve been through if it aids or entertains others in the same/similar situations.
Q2. Where do you get your writing inspiration from?
My inspiration comes from my previous google searches. Seriously! I’ll elaborate… I could search for ‘what product reduces body hair’, I may find the product, but I don’t often find a clear review or any pictures showing the before or after, so then I set out to get my take on it out there. So that if anyone else searched for the same thing on Google, then my review would be there and it would help others!
Q3. If you could offer some words of encouragement to a newbie or frustrated blogger, what would they be?
Don’t blog to please others, don’t blog about things that have been done to death. Blog about things that interest you. It really carries across in your writing if you are enthusiastic and interested in the topic.
Q4. What has changed most about blogging culture/the blogging industry since you started?
I honestly don’t know. In the grand scheme of things I am still a very new blogger, I don’t really try to fit within the clique of the beauty blogger, I just do what I want basically.
Q5. What daily tools and platforms do you use in your blogging routine, for research, promotion, sharing and other?
When I post on my blog I will often share it on Twitter, my personal Tumblr and also among my facebook friends. I think my next step in the future is to make a facebook group and possibly a specific twitter and try and build up some followers like that.
Q6. Do you understand your blog analytics, and how important do you think they are? Please share some best practice.
I don’t really dig too deep within the analytics side of things but I keep an avid eye on how people have found my blog in the traffic sources. Once someone found me by searching “The blocked nose” – a reference to my Septoplasty operation in Spring 2013
Q7. Where do you hope blogging will take you in the future?
I really hope that I gain a little gathering of followers, my little corner of the world here, getting my opinions heard. It sounds really exciting.
