Please tell us a bit about your blog?
My blog is mostly beauty based and focuses on reviews, hauls and ideas on beauty & skincare. I also like to post about mental health and my own experiences in dealing with severe depression and anxiety.
Q1. How and why did you get into blogging?
I started blogging when I was in the deepest part of my depression. Writing has always been very therapeutic for me, so I used it as an escape. I’ve always had an interest in beauty therapy, so I think heading down the “beauty blogger” path was quite a natural progression for me.
Q2. Where do you get your writing inspiration from?
Everywhere and everyone. I love reading beauty blogs and watching beauty tutorials on youtube. But really, just the people around me in every day life and my own experiences are enough to keep me inspired and motivated. Inspiration is everywhere, you just have to look for it.
Q3. If you could offer some words of encouragement to a newbie or frustrated blogger, what would they be?
Always write about what you love and what you know. Don’t ever try to “force” it, or just post for the sake of posting – let it happen naturally. That’s when you will have the best ideas and the most positive response.
Q4. What has changed most about blogging culture/the blogging industry since you started?
I’ve only been blogging for around 10 months, so I can’t really comment on changes as such.
Q5. What daily tools and platforms do you use in your blogging routine, for research, promotion, sharing and other?
Twitter is probably the biggest one. It’s so useful for networking, research and promoting. I’m on Twitter several times throughout the day without fail, it’s such a great resource for bloggers. Other social networking sites such as Instagram, are also really helpful in building up a network of followers and getting to know other bloggers.
Q6. Do you understand your blog analytics, and how important do you think they are? Please share some best practice.
I’m always mindful of the statistics, but I’ve learnt not to go over board with it. When I first started blogging, I would constantly be checking the numbers and would stress myself out if I felt I hadn’t had enough views that day etc. But really, the numbers aren’t the most important thing. I’m more concerned with my content.
Q7. Where do you hope blogging will take you in the future?
I would love to make a career out of blogging. I’m not sure how realistic that goal is at this stage, with my modest following and relatively recent start, but it’s what I’d ultimately like to work towards over time. I would like to add in new things also, such as a possible youtube channel down the track, and see where that takes me in the future.
