We have asked our blogger community to answer a few blogging questions about themselves, with the aim of getting to know them and their blogs a little better. These will be published as a series of blog posts, which we hope will make interesting reading. Carry on reading if you’d like to find out more about the bloggers who are active on Bloggers Required. You can view other blogger Q&As here, and you can complete your own here.
Please tell us a bit about your blog?
Our blog is run by mother, Jacqui and her two daughters, Hollie and Amelia. We have an online home and gift shop, but we started blogging about a year beforehand. Our blog is mainly about interiors, from trends and styling tips to craft how to’s, however we also like to balance this with a variety of lifestyle posts, about favourite places that we’ve been to, as well as other companies and shops that we love.
Q1. How and why did you get into blogging?
We started blogging in the run up to launching our online shop, to share our inspirations and give everyone a taster of what was to come, however the blog has changed a lot over the last year and blogging has become a hobby of ours, something that we love doing.
Q2. Where do you get your writing inspiration from?
We are always making and crafting things at home, so it’s only natural that we then blog about them. However, we tend to ask ourselves, ‘what do we know how to do, that others might like to learn how to do’? Then we go from there! For instance, this week we have posted about up cycling an old vintage mirror, which actually, is something that we were doing anyway, so we just took lots of pictures and explained how to do it as we went. For our lifestyle posts, we are inspired by things that we like- so if we go to a lovely café or shop, we’ll blog about it!
Q3. If you could offer some words of encouragement to a newbie or frustrated blogger, what would they be?
Try to find your ‘writing hour’. That is, when you write best. For me, it’s actually at about 11pm, which isn’t ideal when I’ve been at the computer since 8am! But, I just seem to feel most creative at that time, so I have to capitalise on it. Also, if you have a flash of inspiration, you must write it down, there and then! Even if you just write a paragraph or bullet points, but I know that personally, if I don’t write it down, then it’s gone as quick as it came!
Q4. What has changed most about blogging culture/the blogging industry since you started?
I have only been blogging for a year and a half, so it hasn’t changed too much in that space of time I wouldn’t say, it was already very prolific by then. That said, I do think the industry is gradually changing and blogging is becoming a much more respected profession, with professional bloggers, finally starting to be taken seriously and respected.
Q5. What daily tools and platforms do you use in your blogging routine, for research, promotion, sharing and other?
I blog using WordPress and then share via Buffer, which allows me to auto post at set times throughout the day.
Q6. Do you understand your blog analytics, and how important do you think they are? Please share some best practice.
Yes, I have a pretty good understanding of analytics and I think it’s really important. Firstly, it’s lets you see where your main traffic comes from, which you can take in one of two ways- either focus your attention on that source, or use it to help you gain more traffic from other sources that aren’t working. Secondly, it helps you to learn what your most popular posts are, so that you can do more of them!
Q7. Where do you hope blogging will take you in the future?
I would love to be able to monetise our blog, but more than that as a long term goal I would love to be able to contribute to other blogs and ultimately be a columnist for online interiors and lifestyle magazines.
