About my blog:
My blog is a little bit of everything from countries I’ve visited, make-up I’ve spent too much money on, festivals I’ve been to, future plans for home buying and anything else which goes on in my life.
My main blogging category is:
How and why did you get into blogging:
I got into blogging quite late as I didn’t really realise it was a thing, I started writing for some online publications as a music reviewer and I loved the idea that I could have a space on the internet that was just mine to write what I wanted. I had been doing some freelance copywriting and wanted an escape so I started with a free blogger account to see if I would stick to it before investing in more further down the line.
Where do you get your writing inspiration from?
I get inspiration from the world outside me so in pretty much everything I do and see, but also from other writers. I love reading blog posts and watching Youtube videos and I find sometimes someone else will say something and it sparks an idea in my mind.
If you could offer some words of encouragement to a newbie or frustrated blogger, what would they be?
Don’t expect to just jump in at chapter 10, everything takes time to build like your audience and DA score. But at the same time if you’re feeling drained or unmotivated take some time out, clear your head, get your passion back and try again.
What has changed most about blogging culture/the blogging industry since you started?
I think the quality of blogs in general, while I’ve not been blogging for all that long even in that time image quality has grown so much as bloggers are investing in better equipment, learning new skills and not being scared to outsource things. Layouts and the way things look are a lot more editorial as well with the decline in physical print.
What daily tools and platforms do you use in your blogging routine, for research, promotion, sharing and other:
I still use Bloglovin to keep in the loop with my favourite bloggers and to read, this is such a great research method. When I start a post, it always starts with words which I do through WordPress, then comes the images. For images, once I take them I use canva to re-size or create my Pinterest images. Then once the post is scheduled I schedule my tweets with tweetdeck and missing letter to ensure there’s some social coverage. When it comes to Instagram I use buffer to schedule my Instagram posts and prepare my social feeds.
Tell us about your greatest blogging achievement to date?
My biggest achievement has to be being picked by Visit Ischia to go on a four day trip to the island to be shown it’s unknown beauty. Ischia is an island just off Italy and is much larger than Scilly but a lot less well known, absolutely everything was covered for us from accommodation and flights through to all the activities and meals. It was so nice that someone had seen my blog and thought yes this person is right for what we want.
Where do you hope blogging will take you in the future?
I don’t ever want to be a full time blogger, I don’t think I would like the uncertainly of work month on month and I need human contact but I hope my blog will bring me happiness. I love writing and I love seeing people connect with my work so I just want that in the future.
