Please tell us a bit about your blog?
My blog is a Beauty, Fashion and Lifestyle inspired blog. It incorporates my trials and errors with products I’ve used in the past and that I’m using for the first time now. Focusing on trends and what I personally like to wear, what flatters my plus size figure. My blog also includes inspirational lifestyle posts where I write honest and in-depth posts, to any reader reading this, it will seem like we are old friends, My blog is informal and down to earth just like I am allowing any reader, any size to relate. A plus sized girl, larger then life and happier then ever sharing her experiences and opinions with the world.
Q1. How and why did you get into blogging?
As a plus sized young woman, I have many questions I wish to ask the fashion and beauty world. “How can I apply make up to eliminate the appearance of my double chin?” or ” What shaped jeans will best suit my large bottom and chunky tree trunk thighs “. I can laugh about it now and use examples like that in jest now, because I have the answer. But sadly I didn’t get it from a blogger, I brought tonnes of make up and experimented till I found what worked for me, and I purchased straight cut, bootleg and every other type of jeans there are available and had to find out myself. I only wish there was someone out there, a larger woman in the limelight telling me how I could of done this or that to give me confidence, until I realized, well why couldn’t I be that person? Why couldn’t I tell my story’s and tell people about the products that worked for me… and here we are!
Q2. Where do you get your writing inspiration from?
My inspiration can come from anything, A good mood, If somethings caught my eye, if someone is doing a blog on something and then I get an idea to do something from that. I’m quite a creative person ( and modest obviously haha ) and for example today, I really felt the cold on my way to work and cursed myself for not getting any gloves or a scarf, so this morning I’ve put together a little wishlist of Winter Warmers in high street shops and just put that up as a post. Its relevant, it engages my readers and shows them a few bits they can be getting.
Q3. If you could offer some words of encouragement to a newbie or frustrated blogger, what would they be?
As a blogger that still is a newbie, I can say with confidence to be yourself. write posts that relate to yourself. Make them personal and let your personality shine through. I think I’ve only done so well so soon because I’m honest and open and that comes through in a post. Try not to get caught up in the stats with how many people are following you or commenting on your blog. If you make good posts that are well written, contain good quality pictures, People will comment and they will follow you if they relate.
Q4. What has changed most about blogging culture/the blogging industry since you started?
I can remember when I was younger having a blog, although, not a beauty blog, and the huge amount of ” add for an add” emails Ive gotten in the last week. I’m seldom interested in adding Joe Bloggs cooking blog just because he is going to follow me back. I want other plus sized women, I want to see their posts coming onto my feed. It’s more about how many followers you have now-a-days.
Q5. What daily tools and platforms do you use in your blogging routine, for research, promotion, sharing and other?
At the moment, at this start of my journey, Im using my blog via blogger. I’ll link my posts to my Tumblr, Twitter and Instagram. Being a new blog, I don’t really have any competitions yet though I’m hoping to host something when I hit a landmark!
Q6. Do you understand your blog analytics, and how important do you think they are? Please share some best practice.
Blog Analytics are very important and are probably not understood as much as they should be. I use both Google Analytics and sitemeter. There are loads you can use but I use these two. I use SiteMeter to track real-time visitor information, and I use Google Analytics to look at trends over time. It’s important to look at your traffic. You couldwrite a post everyday and on monday only get 100 hits for that day, but on Sunday have your blog reach 250 hits. This would tell me to post more on sundays rather then mondays. I’m not an expert but I know a basic understanding.
Q7. Where do you hope blogging will take you in the future?
Forward. I can’t describe the kick I have felt being on this side of the blog, being the author of the posts and not just the reader. I have so much to say and share that its been so rewarding already getting to share my thoughts with people. I have recieved so many lovely and inspiring messages already that I can only promise to carry on as I’m going in the hopes I can reach more people, Help out that tired and uninspired plus size girl getting bullied and help her find some confidence with my words. I’d love to make videos too but I’m saving that for the new year :P
