Please tell us a bit about your blog?

Guilty Pleasures Blog is a fashion and style blog that I started in late 2012 as a creative outlet/hobby blog for me to work on when I wasn’t at Uni or work or interning. I started to serious blog mid 2013 when I was inspired by other small blogs in Adelaide. I focus on inspiration posts, events in my community and trends that I follow and love. I am also starting to review products, interview influencers in my life and have a new post each week ‘Package of the Week’, inspired by my addiction to online shopping.

Q1. How and why did you get into blogging?

I got into blogging mainly as a creative outlet whether it be writing in depth articles or just sharing images I love. I have an incredible amount of love for fashion and I needed to express it somehow, I don’t draw or design but I do love to write!

Q2. Where do you get your writing inspiration from?

My writing inspiration is quite like any inspiration I have it comes from a variety of things! Whether it be magazines, other blogs, street style, movies or music. I get inspired so easily that I could feel it all getting bubbled up in myself, I knew I had to put it all down somewhere.

Q3. If you could offer some words of encouragement to a newbie or frustrated blogger, what would they be?

My advice is: YOU WILL FIND YOUR FLOW! I started several blogs on all different sites until I was finally happy. I got a rhythm happening and from there I just kept going, but it took a long time to find that. I remember when I first started I was like how embarrassing what am I writing about and why? There was a lot of erasing and a lot of deleting, but you get there – you find a reason to keep going and you find sense.

Q4. What has changed most about blogging culture/the blogging industry since you started?

Blogging has definitely become more common, everyone blogs but what I love is none are the same. You have your outfit post bloggers, you have your paid bloggers, you have your ‘this is my career bloggers’ and you have your event bloggers. When I first started I swore by ‘Frassy’, she was like the goddess of all bloggers but now you have bloggers with more followers and that live in Australia. Bloggers now use Instagram as a social media tool – some even use it as their platform!

Q5. What daily tools and platforms do you use in your blogging routine, for research, promotion, sharing and other?

I make sure I do at least two Instagram posts a day for blogging – I include hashtags that will come up in searches that are relevant. I just started a Facebook page for my blog, which doesn’t have as many followers but I think is still good to have. I try to post every few days, just to keep it fresh. To research blog topics I read a lot of magazines both print and online for inspiration, I research trends that I love and I keep a collection of images from tumblr etc and put them in suitable themed folders such as gold or summer – for sunny days that make me happy!

Q6. Do you understand your blog analytics, and how important do you think they are? Please share some best practice.

I use Google analytics and the statistics given on my blogging platform (weebly), just out of interest to see how many people have viewed each day and where they are from! I blog mainly for me, so I’m not too fussed about the analytics.

Q7. Where do you hope blogging will take you in the future?

As I said at the moment I blog for me – I’m lucky enough some people actually read it! But for the future I’d like to start doing outfit posts to attract brands and such. I also use it to practice and showcase my writing. I finish Uni at the end of the year, so it’s a great asset to have to show that I have an interest in fashion and writing as well.
