We have asked our blogger community to answer a few blogging questions about themselves, with the aim of getting to know them and their blogs a little better. These will be published as a series of blog posts, which we hope will make interesting reading. Carry on reading if you’d like to find out more about the bloggers who are active on Bloggers Required. You can view other blogger Q&As here, and you can complete your own here.
My main blogging categories are Mom & food/travel.
Please tell us a bit about your blog?
I actually have 2 blogs! My Mommy Powers blog (http://www.MommyPowers.us) deals with all things Mommy-the good, the bad & of course, the ugly! I talk about parenting 2 multicultural boys in today’s world. I’m a biracial Latina blogger, I talk about race, health issues… share recipes & social good stories. i want to help empower women.
My other blog, is a Food/Travel blog. http://www.thismamacancook.net covers all my foodie & travel adventures!
Q1. How and why did you get into blogging?
I started blogging 2 years ago after being told over & over again that I needed to start a blog. I have been through many things in my life, not all good. I have lots to share with other women & hope to encourage them. I want them to know that no matter what they are going through, there is light at the end of the tunnel. I’m living proof! I’ve survived abusive (VERY) relationships, I’m in an interracial marriage (23 years now!), I have numerous health problems,: fibromyalgia, lesions on my brain, surgery for uterine fibroids, I’ve lost 2 babies to miscarriage-one very early in my pregnancy & one at 1 wks gestation. Delivering a baby you know is no longer alive is something no woman should ever have to experience.
I started my food & travel blog because I am passionate about both!
Q2. Where do you get your writing inspiration from?
Everywhere! Life! Things going on in my life and in the world. My kids, my family. Inspiration is everywhere!
Q3. If you could offer some words of encouragement to a newbie or frustrated blogger, what would they be?
Stick with it, be you, do you! I don’t care if my numbers aren’t high, if I am able to touch one person, inspire them. cheer them up, make them think twice before they do something that might hurt them- then I’ve done my job!
Q4. What has changed most about blogging culture/the blogging industry since you started?
Everyone is blogging! Folks want to get “paid” but don’t want to put in the time & work needed.
Q5. What daily tools and platforms do you use in your blogging routine, for research, promotion, sharing and other?
Social media is huge! I use twitter, FB, instagram, google+, and anything else I can find to promote my posts. I use the internet for research when needed.
Q6. Do you understand your blog analytics, and how important do you think they are? Please share some best practice.
I understand them but helping people and inspiring them to be better are my top priorities. I want to inspire women… numbers take a backseat to that.
Q7. Where do you hope blogging will take you in the future?
I want to be able to earn a decent income, while staying home with my kids. I want to help people, here and abroad, by participating in social good projects. I want to reach as many people as possible with my blog, I want them to know everything will be all right-no matter what they face.
