We have asked our blogger community to answer a few blogging questions about themselves, with the aim of getting to know them and their blogs a little better. These will be published as a series of blog posts, which we hope will make interesting reading. Carry on reading if you’d like to find out more about the bloggers who are active on Bloggers Required. You can view other blogger Q&As here, and you can complete your own here.
Please tell us a bit about your blog?
Paint the UK Pink was born from my obsession with skincare and makeup. I review everyday skincare and makeup products aswell as the latest items to hit the shelves. It’s my honesty that keeps my readers coming back. I’m always connected to the matrix (as my boyfriend cares to put it): I live and breath my blog. I became a Makeup Artist earlier this year and continue to share tips and reviews through my little corner of the internet and always reply to every comment. I feel the connection between bloggers and the readers is an unbreakable one.
Q1. How and why did you get into blogging?
My bathroom cupboard has always overflowed with skincare products. I’m forever trying to find the right one for my skintype. It was when I googled for reviews on a certain product that I came across a blog by one of my now favourite bloggers ‘Tattooed Tea Lady’. I had depression at the time and found the world of beauty blogging an escape. I found many new friends on and offline and can’t imagine life without those connections now.
Q2. Where do you get your writing inspiration from?
It’s a cliche but everywhere! I may be doing the washing up and my hands will dry out. I’ll reach for my hand lotion and think I have to blog about this. It’s in the everyday: the products I use most often that inspire me. Pinterest has been a significant source of daily inspiration and I pin regularly.
Q3. If you could offer some words of encouragement to a newbie or frustrated blogger, what would they be?
Chillax. Remember you’re doing this because you love it! If you are having a blogger block then read other peoples blogs and see what topics they are writing about. Join in and comment, ask questions. The best bloggers are the ones who help and support others.
Q4. What has changed most about blogging culture/the blogging industry since you started?
Blogging appears to be less of a hobby now and more and more bloggers are going straight into it in the hope to make money. This leads to less than interesting blog posts and layouts covered in adverts. I am regularly put off by blogs such as these. I am thankful if a company contacts me to review something for them but I only do so if it’s of relevance to my blog and my readers.
Q5. What daily tools and platforms do you use in your blogging routine, for research, promotion, sharing and other?
Twitter has always been my first platform to share posts. I do use Facebook but limit my posts to my Blog page and not my personal profile. If friends and family want to know about the latest lipstick I’m wearing then they can like my page. I pin images directly from my blog daily. This way when it’s repinned it will still link back to my blog.
Q6. Do you understand your blog analytics, and how important do you think they are? Please share some best practice.
It’s a good idea to use Google Analytics rather than the stats from you platform. Platform stats can be misleading as they don’t filter the spam clicks. I still need to get my head around this side of blogging and wpould love to take a course to help me better understand analytics.
Q7. Where do you hope blogging will take you in the future?
I only hope to be a source of inspiration for other bloggers and people within the makeup industry. Blogging has only ever been a hobby for me: a time consuming hobby but one I can do in front of the tv with a cup of tea. I’d love to connect with more brands and possible even blog on their platforms/magazines in the near future.
