Yemzi London offers a range of colourful limited-edition eco-friendly wearable art for bold women. The label’s print focussed spring/summer 2016 collection is named ‘Straight Out Of The City Via The Motherland’. An ode to natural beauty, bohemia and free expression, its influences range from Nigerian culture in the 90s to the English seaside of the designer’s hometown Bournemouth.
Since its launch in January 2015, Yemzi is a true celebration and appreciation of slow and organic fashion Made in London. With a mission to bring comfort and inspiration through a blend of African & European tradition, founder and designer Elizabeth Akingbade’s work uses high quality silk sourced from Jiangsu, across Yemzi’s ‘Gold Label’ range. The ‘Black Label’, comprising of everyday basic wear, uses GOTS organic cotton and ecological lenzig modal fabric.
The new ladieswear collection is made up of scarves, bomber jackets, bra tops, maxi dresses and separates, innovatively cut to create fluid forms and contemporary updates to vintage shapes. Sports luxe twists, asymmetric quirks and tidy finishes all feature throughout the collection.
Luxurious fabrics are printed with digital textile designs that are all from the designer’s own acrylic paintings. Based on her hybrid British-Nigerian background, Elizabeth’s collection of finely printed apparel and accessories, offers a personal and nostalgic connection to the rich cultural heritage of West Africa and the modern diverse dynamism of London. The unique fashion print, available in ice blue, tangerine and emerald colourways, takes inspiration from tropical animal skins and their natural environment.
Created for the discerning female, the brand epitomises a woman that is comfortable with her self and embraces her individuality. She is an attractive and cultivated woman, positive with a well-being attitude, who wants to experiment with colour and textile and will always endeavour to make her own unique statement.
An alumni of the University of The Arts, where she studied Surface Design, Elizabeth values attention to detail and precision, as well as ethically produced manufacturing to reduce the harmful effects fashion can have on people’s health and the environment. ‘Straight Out Of The City Via The Motherland’ which consists of 13 ready-to-wear looks, is available to purchase from January 2016 on www.yemzi.com. Yemzi’s high street range under her ‘Black Label’ is currently available on ASOS and in a handful of boutiques across Europe. PRICES RANGE FROM £25 – £310
