There has already been much critical acclaim for Radical Geometry: Modern Art of South America, and now we want to know what you think. We would love for you to join us on Friday 22 August at 6.30pm for a special bloggers’ reception, followed by an evening of Latin flavours and rhythms at the Royal Academy of Arts, inspired by this exhibition.
We’re hosting a one-off South American night to celebrate the astonishing abstract art on display. Set against a backdrop of political and social upheaval, the exhibition spans 50 years of bold creative innovation that saw artists across five South American cities pioneer a new visual language to reflect their utopian ideals.
Together, these artists (among them Lygia Clark, star of a recent MoMA retrospective, and Carlos Cruz-Diez, whose work was recently seen in the Hayward Gallery’s Light Show) created some of the most important, exciting and original modern art of the 20th century. This is art that refuses to be contained; work that changes as you move around it and invites playful interaction between object and viewer.
Before exploring this remarkable exhibition, we invite you to attend a private bloggers’ reception in the prestigious setting of the Academicians’ Room of the Keeper’s House where you can hear directly from an RA expert and enjoy a free mojito. Afterwards, venture into our courtyard to experience some toe-tapping South American music and dance, courtesy of Brazilian Grammy Award winner Zeu Azevedo, or be tempted by our Latin-inspired menu available on the night.
Please RSVP by emailing [email protected] by 20 August 2014. We can only admit those on the guest list, so please be sure to let us know if you’re coming.
We look forward to seeing you there,
The RA team
