Back in January, I introduced my baby hedgie, and today I wanted to share a quick little update, along with some adorable pictures.

Bridget has recently stopped being her normal happy go lucky snuggly self and started to act depressed, by this I mean she has been sleeping even more than usual, she is eating a lot less, she has been jumpy, grumpy and very anti-social.

From doing some research and chatting with the breeder, I believe Bridget has started quilling. Quilling is like teething, it is when the hedgie starts to lose her super prickly baby quills and starts growing her slightly less pricky grown-up quills. This process puts the hedgie in quite a bit of discomfort causing her to feel less than her happy little self.

Thankfully I got a little photo shoot in before her quills started to hurt and she could still be held comfortably. Unfortunately, there is really nothing that can be done to make her feel more comfortable, other than not touching her quills.

So other than giving her her bath I try not to touch her. I let her sit on my lap, or in my hand while I feed her snacks.

According to the breeder, this phase should only last two-four weeks, and then the hedgie will start to feel more herself.

I hope you enjoyed this update, I thought it would be fun to do these every now and then.
