Fortunately, stretch marks are more an aesthetic problem, rather than being a medical one. Getting properly hydrated can be the ideal treatment while applying associated oils or oils that have an elevated vitamin C amount can stimulate the production of collagen in the skin. Therefore, it helps with tissue regeneration in the affected area of the skin.

What are stretch marks?

They are visible lines on the surface of the skin, differentiated by a different color than the tone of your normal, healthy skin. Stretch marks are usually found on the abdomen, but they can also appear on the thighs, upper arms, buttocks, or breasts. They can be red or white. Unfortunately, those that already have a pearled-white color can be already considered as mature, being rather bothering from an aesthetic point of view.

Stretch marks causes

While a pregnancy is considered the main cause for the appearance of stretch marks, there are other reasons that can trigger their appearance. For example, a rapid weight loss or weight gain, hereditary factors, stress and physical changes – bodybuilding or practicing sports at a professional level.

In the case of men, things are simpler. They appear in the case of sports practicing that change the shape of the body or in men that take anabolic steroids. But they can also appear when rapid weight shifts occur, like a rapid weight loss or weight gain.

Prevention and treatment

If stretch marks are discovered in a timely manner, simply applying oils or creams can help with their removal. Also, physical effort and drinking plenty of liquids (a minimum of 2 liters per day) can have benefic effects by increasing blood flow in subcutaneous tissues.

The oils and creams that can be used:

Oily vitamin A and E recommended for in-depth healing and recovery of cellular tissue.

White Sea buckthorn oil – it contains omega-7, an ingredient that supports cellular regeneration, protects collagen fibers, and helps reduce the visible aspect of stretch marks while preventing their appearance.

Aloe Vera – the Aloe Vera juice is used in numerous skin issues, including when it comes to stretch marks. Its epithelial regeneration and restoration properties are extremely useful.

You can apply Aloe Vera juice directly onto the affected skin area or you can mix it first with vitamin A and E, and then apply it on the skin. After allowing the solution to sit for 15 minutes, you can remove it.

Castor oil can also be used in a wide range of skin conditions, such as wrinkles, age spots, moles, dark spots, fine lines and zits, but it can also be used to get rid of stretch marks.

When it comes to stretch marks, the castor oil should be applied with circular movements while massaging the area for approximately 5 minutes. Then you can wrap the affected area with a cotton bandage and place on top a bottle with warm water or a bag of cold/warm gel for at least 30 minutes. With the help of this method, you can obtain results within a month of applying it.

Sugar mixed with jojoba oil (or any other deeply hydrating oil) and lemon juice, can be applied every evening, before taking a shower. Applying these ingredients for a month will bring in the desired results.

You can even prepare a wonder serum at home, which contains coconut oil and a few drops of Geranium oil, Sea buckthorn, and frankincense. Apply this mixture every evening, before going to bed, and massage the skin until the serum gets completely absorbed.

Also, you can have supplements with vitamin C (it increased collagen synthesis), vitamin A and E, and also minerals like zinc and silicon.

Modern treatments

Stretch marks are a cosmetic issue, which can appear as soon as adolescence.

There are three types of treatment for this particular problem, as they follow:

  • Local application of retinoid;
  • Laser therapy;
  • Chemical peeling.

Other methods recommended by specialists are microdermabrasion, laser therapy, or surgical removal of the affected skin area. In the case of breasts, there is a procedure called mastopexy in which excess skin, together with the stretch marks, will be removed from around the breasts.

Through the removal of the superficial layer, stretch marks can also be removed, leaving behind the in-depth cells that will give skin a beautiful and healthy appearance. The peeling can be moderate, in-depth, or superficial, being a procedure that will be performed only by a dermatology specialist.
