Ever upload your own videos to YouTube that get no views and make no money? That’s what I did. I’m not a YouTuber, but I decided to upload a bowling fail video of myself in November last year for a bit of fun and last night a company called Viral Video UK contacted me and said they would buy the video rights from me. They offered me $100, and I accepted it. I didn’t sell my video because I needed the money, I sold it because I knew I’d never push it on YouTube, and it’s $100 (£70) for free to spend on some Krispy Kreme or something. Ha! Viral Video UK is an independent company managed by ex-producers with contacts in TV, advertising and news media outlets who buy the rights to potential viral videos. They monetise the videos, protect them and license them to TV and brand producers. BBC, Channel 4, ITV, MTV, Discovery Channel, NBC and HBO are just some of the television networks and media outlets where your videos will be pitched.
