The Dragon and the Nibblesome Knight is out on the 5th of May

Can knights and dragons ever be friends?

When a kind young boy helps a strange-looking bird, a beautiful friendship forms. But what these two friends don’t realise is that one is a young knight. . . and the other a young dragon! What will they do when they discover they are enemies and destined to FIGHT?

The Dragon and the Nibblesome Knight is a bold, funny and heartwarming story from a perfect picture book pairing; the uniquely talented Elli Woollard and award-winning Benji Davies.

The Giant of Jum (this book has been out before but has been rejacketed to match the above) 5th May

A hungry giant meets a boy called Jack. . .

“Fee!” he said, and “Fi!” he said, and “Fo!” he said and “Fum!”

Look out children, the Giant of Jum is grumpy and hungry and he’s off in search of a tasty snack. And the tastiest of all is a boy called Jack! But Jack and his friends don’t see a scary giant, they see a magically tall man – a man who can fetch lost balls and rescue cats from trees! Perhaps this hungry giant is softer than he seems…

An incredible rhyming text and a brilliant, big-hearted twist on a classic fairy tale, from the uniquely talented author and poet, Elli Woollard, and awardwinning illustrator, Benji Davies.

The Giant of Jum also contains an important message for all: don’t eat kids, eat cake!

Swashbuckle Lil The Secret Pirate  – 19th May

Meet Swashbuckle Lil, an ordinary girl with an extraordinary imagination!

Lil is a pirate, a good sort of pirate, and when there is someone to save, she’ll do what is right (if it takes her all night). Yes, she’ll always be bold and be brave.

When evil pirate Stinkbeard tries to kidnap Lil’s teacher, it’s up to schoolgirl and secret pirate, Lil, to come to the rescue. In story two it’s sports day, but there’s a very hungry croc on the loose. Can Lil and her trusty parrot, Carrot, scare Stinkbeard and his pet croc away?

Swashbuckle Lil: The Secret Pirate, by author Elli Woollard and illustrator Laura Ellen Anderson, is the first in an exciting series with two rip-roaringly rhyming, brilliantly illustrated stories in each book which make the perfect transition from parent-led to independent reading.

Also available are activity sheets and posters

What is the blogging assignment?

We have an author who has two picture books out and a new first reader book. We’d like to send all three books  for review to bloggers for a ‘this author is for growing up with’ piece with the families. We think people will love Elli’s writing and so we want to build her reputation as a writer for children of all ages.

The titles are all about ‘a land far, far away’ so that is the thing that links them.

Elli Woollard is an exciting talent on the picture books scene, who started writing stories after an embarrassing incident in which her youngest son broke Michael Rosen’s glasses. In addition to picture books, she also writes children’s poems. Her snappy rhymes, catchy rhythms and witty stories are sure to make her a huge success. The Giant of Jum, her first book for Macmillan, was a hit debut and the start of her winning collaboration with Benji Davies. Elli lives in London with her four children, her husband and two guinea pigs.

Benji Davies is an award-winning children’s illustrator and animation director. Benji has worked on a diverse range of projects, from music videos to animated films, but now creates beautiful, bestselling picture books. His books have sold all over the world in many different languages. In 2014 he was awarded the Oscar’s First Book Prize and was shortlisted for Booktrust’s Best Book Awards and in 2015 he was awarded the WIA Children’s Book Award. His books for Macmillan include Winston was Worried and The Giant of Jum, written by Elli Woollard. Benji lives with his wife in London.
