It is no surprise that one of the questions that some of my readers have been asking is around blog titles. One of the questions is, “What are great titles”?
Basically, a great title should be actionable, emphatic or intriguing. Here are some few examples to elaborate what I mean:
How to Give A Good Speech… Even If You Hate Public Speaking….
This is the best example of an actionable title. It tells you that the post is going to explain something useful. The second part addresses a concern you might have and persuades you to read on.
The Stalker’s Guide to Landing Your Next Job…..
This is an example of an intriguing title. By using the word stalker’ in this title, the author has created a sense of strangeness in the article. Every job seeker will want to find out what a stalker has to do with finding a job.
London Blog Club Meetup: The Exciting Experience is F***ING GREAT….
This is the best example of an emphatic title. The author has put more emphasis on the exciting experience of the club by including the word F***ING GREAT’ on the title. As a reader who is searching for the best blog meetups in London, you would want to click on this title to find out if this bold claim is true.

How To Create Great Titles
1. Start with a working title.
Before you get into the most important aspects of a title, start with a rough draft. A working title should be very specific and one that guides the creation of your blog posts. It’s also worth noting that working titles are not perfect. After generating you’re the content, you can then work around to make it clickable and search-friendly.
2. Stay accurate.
Accuracy is also an important aspect when creating titles. Readers will click a title that they believe is true. For instance, “Facebook Founder Richard Branson to give away 99% of shares.” This is a good example of an inaccurate title that readers will ignore.
3) Make it sexy
Creating an accurate title doesn’t mean that it will pop up. You should make your title a little sexier. You need to find the language that resonates with your target audience. Once you understand the persona’s preferred style, proceed to make your headlines a little sexier.
For instance, let’s say you are writing a post about, “Top 5 Beautiful Models on Instagram.” This is an accurate working title but you need to remove some boring out of it. The title may turn out to be like, “Top 5 hot and sexy models Who Are Killing It on Instagram.”
4) Keep it short
If your goal is to make your posts rank well in search engines, you need to focus on the length of the title. Basically, most search engines prefer titles under 70 characters. If your goal is to optimise your title for social media, titles between 8 to 12 words in length are the most preferred.

How To Create Great Posts
This topic about how to create great posts has been covered extensively by many bloggers. One of the bloggers who have covered this topic extensively is Dan Shewan. In his article, “How to Write an Awesome Blog Post in Five Steps,” Dan walks bloggers through a variety of information on blog writing that can make a good post great. Below are some of the points that he has covered.
1. Planning a Blog Post
These are things that bloggers should do before putting pen to paper. These involve researching for a great title and posts ideas which I have covered above. Planning also involves choosing a topic that interests you.
2. Writing a Blog Post
One of the most important tips for online writing is making a post scannable, reader and search engine friendly. There are several techniques to make a post scannable. These includes proper formatting; use of heading and subheadings; proper spacing; getting to the point; use of lists; use of bolds and italics and much more.
To write great content, you must also determine the length of the posts. There are a number of ways of looking at it. If you want to capture your readers’ attention, keep the length of your posts down to a level that is readable in a short grab. Another way to look at it is SEO. Posts with reasonable lengths are ranked well in Search Engines. My advice is to keep page over 300 words and under 1000 words.
Writing for websites and blogs is different than writing for print. For website or blogs, it is a good idea to include visual stimulation which includes images, graphs or charts. Images will help your blog post flow more effectively.

Why You Should Update Your Titles And Posts With New Material And Data
Try searching for anything using any search engine. You will find that search engines display the recently published content to help users determine the freshness of the post. If you update your blog titles and post with new materials and data, the search engine will modify the publishing date and display in the search engine results page. This makes your content ranked high in search engines.
In a nutshell, these are some of the benefits of updating your blog titles and posts with new materials and data.
1. Getting rid of amateur blog posts
If you are a first-time blogger, you may have created several mistakes when you published your blog posts. Also, you may have written shallow content because you knew less about the topic. Now that you have become older and more experienced, it is a good idea to look at your old posts and try to clean them up.
2. Change in your way of interpretation
As a newbie or advanced blogger, you may have a different mindset when you were generating your older blog posts. If you realise that your opinion on the topic has changed according to the current trend, updating your older posts may become effective or valid in the present scenario. You, therefore, need to go through your older posts to update them with fresh opinions.
3. Spark conversation
Conversation and comments add value to the content. You may have created a blog post that you expected people to comment it, but you find that nobody reacted to it. Updating the older content with new ideas might make it desirable for conversation. If possible, tell your audience that you have updated the content. You can do this by either republishing the blog post on the homepage or placing an updated label.
4. Retain visitors
Do you know that your loyal visitors will be disappointed if they find out that you are not updating your site? This is true. Your target audience will stop visiting your website or blogging site if they notice that your content is outdated. They won’t bother themselves to dig up further to find what they want. One way of keeping your loyal readers is by updating your old blog posts with new content. This will help keep your visitors coming back for more content.
5. Get an instant boost in search engines
As stated earlier, search engines clearly love fresh and updated content. As soon as you continue to update your old posts and titles with insightful materials and data, your site will experience an organic spike. As the search engines crawl your blog post next time someone types in a relevant keyword, your site will climb faster and eventually appears on the first page of those search engines.
